Woodinville Deck Renovation
A weather-worn deck rebuilt as a year-round outdoor living space.
Overview
This Woodinville home sits on a wooded lot ringed by mature firs, but its original deck had stopped keeping up with how the family actually used it. Masterpeace Construction rebuilt it from the framing up — turning a dated platform into a true extension of the house and one of the most-used rooms on the property.
Instead of a deck bolted to the back of the home, we designed an outdoor room: defined edges, a real roof overhead, and clear zones for lounging and gathering that flow straight off the main floor through the sliding doors.
The Design
A louvered pergola for any weather. The adjustable louvered roof is what makes this deck usable year-round. Aluminum blades tilt from fully open to fully closed, shrugging off Pacific Northwest rain and adding shade on hot afternoons — set in a matte-black frame that ties into the railings and trim.
Cable railings that keep the view. Horizontal black cable railing keeps sightlines to the surrounding trees clean and open. It reads as one crisp architectural line rather than a visual wall, so the forest stays part of the space.
Warm wood grounded in natural stone. Wide wood-tone decking and cedar skirting soften the black steel, while a flagstone patio steps down to meet the lawn — connecting the raised deck to the garden and the character of the home.
The Result
The finished deck works in July and in the middle of a grey Northwest drizzle: morning coffee under the louvers, dinners with the panels tilted open, the forest always in view. It’s more than a renovation — it’s a space built for everyday living, gatherings, and years of memories.
